The ShakerScope is designed to be a multi-purpose battery free light source for use in developing countries and difficult environments.

The single generator/light source unit contained in the handle is designed to be compatible with a range of specially designed instrument heads, so that the device is highly economical and offers great savings in weight and size compared to conventional devices, which use a separate handle/battery unit for each instrument.

Instrument heads for the ShakerScope include a laryngoscope (for airway management during anaesthesia or resuscitation), an otoscope (for ear examination) and an ophthalmoscope (for eye examination).
A dedicated ophthalmoscope has also been designed for use in developing countries.

A variety of other instrument heads are currently under development.
