All three directors have experience of research & development and fully understand the limitations of existing technology in the clinical environment through
experience of working (and continuing to work) as end users in hospital medicine in the UK
and overseas for many years.
Dr David Williams
MBChB 1990, FRCA 1997, DipDHM 2001
David Williams is a consultant anaesthetist at Morriston Hospital, Swansea and senior clinical
lecturer at the University of Wales, Swansea.
In addition to his work in the National Health
Service, he has done voluntary work in remote areas of Zambia and Nepal. He has also
worked in the Diving & Hyperbaric Medicine Unit at the Royal Adelaide Hospital S. Australia,
and has led and published numerous research projects. He has 2 registered designs, 3
patents for medical devices, and over 15 peer-reviewed publications.
Additional relevant skills
include: computing (CAD/CAM, 2D & 3D graphic design and animation, web design),
electronic circuit design and construction. He has designed and built computer-controlled
sound and light installations for public sculpture exhibitions.
Dr John Dingley
MBChB 1987, FRCA 1993, MD 2000
John Dingley is a consultant anaesthetist at Morriston Hospital, Swansea and senior clinical
lecturer and researcher at the University of Wales, Swansea.
He has experience of the
process of fundraising and commercial exploitation of medical research and currently runs 2 other university spin-out companies. He has designed and built a number of breathing systems for the therapeutic administration of xenon and carbon
monoxide gases, a device for removal of micro bubbles from the circulation, a pneumatic
mechanical ventilator, and a device to aid the insertion of plastic airway tubes.
He holds 10
patents and has published 6 peer-reviewed research articles relating to these devices.
Additional relevant skills include: design and manufacture of equipment using metal and
plastics using welding and latheing, pneumatics and programming microcontroller chips for
the control of equipment.
Mr Robert Banks
Robert Banks is an anaesthetic technician at Morriston Hospital, Swansea. He is responsible
for patient care in the operating theatre, staff training and maintenance and ordering of
medical equipment.
His background is in engineering, and he has a Higher National Diploma
(HND) in building studies and City & Guilds diploma in carpentry.
Additional relevant skills
include: working in metal, plastics and fibreglass, vacuum forming & mould-making.
