The original ShakerScope was radically re-designed in 2008 by Cardiff-based
design company PDR to incorporate
sleek minimalist styling and a range of additional features including
a water- and dust- proof outer shell made from antibacterial plastics.
The internal mechanism can be easily removed whenever required, allowing
the outer shell to undergo high temperature or chemical sterilisation.
A pre-production prototype has been used by army medics on active
service in Afghanistan with very positive reviews.

The new design, shown here, was showcased as part of the DesignWales 2007
Cardiff Design Festival, and
won the Medical Healthcare category of the 2008 International
Forum Design Awards, and the 2008 Red
Dot Product Design Awards. The ShakerScope was shown on PDR’s
stand at the Medica conference in Germany
(14-17/11/07).
